Here at Threads for Teens, we LOVE mirrors. How else can you see how gorgeous you look in a certain outfit!?! And a simple mirror is not enough. Of course, everything has to fit in our color scheme of pink, gold, and black. For this mirror, we took the pink and gold route. Read on to learn how you can make your own fabulous mirror!

First things first, you will need to prepare your mirror to be painted! Take the blue tape, and cover the entire mirror. This is super important, because you don’t want any paint getting on the mirror itself (or else you may end up scraping it off with a knife!).

As you can see, we decided to leave the gold part unpainted. We thought this would go perfectly with the final project! If you bought a dark-colored mirror (like ours) and want to go lighter (like us), you will need to prime the mirror. We used some old primer we found in the garage. Anything can be used for primer, like white paint. They sell spray paint primer. Whatever you have or can find to be the cheapest!

When you prime your mirror, you will need to make sure it is fully covered in primer and that all of the stroke faces the same way. You may need to do several coats to achieve this. In other words, be deliberate in the way you paint the mirror so that it looks uniform.

Once you finish priming the frame, LET IT DRY COMPLETELY. Once the paint is fully dried, you are ready to start spray painting!

Like when priming, you will need to be deliberate and careful about the way you spray the mirror. Spray about a foot about the mirror, in even strokes. It will most likely take several coats to cover the mirror. Thankfully, spray paint dries fast between coats.

When you reach your desired level of color, you can sprinkle the glitter onto the mirror. It is critical that the mirror is still partially wet so that the glitter sticks!

10

You will need to carefully peel off the tape, but again do not do this until you are sure the paint is dry! Be careful to not pull off any of the paint from the mirror.

YAYY! Now for the fun part. Decorating the mirror! If you chose to add silk flowers, you will need to cut the heads from the stems. Many silk flowers are constructed with wire, so wire cutters will be needed to accomplish this step.

Once your supplies is all ready to go, you can start laying out on the mirror your design! We recommend doing this so that you can move stuff around if you’re not happy with how it looks. Once you are happy with the finished product, you can use the hot glue gun to add stuff to the mirror! AND YES, you are done and have an amazing mirror! <3
